Religious Education
Religious Education forms the “core of the core curriculum” (St Pope John Paul II), reflecting our commitment to Catholic principles. Aligned with the Curriculum Directory for Catholic Schools as agreed by the Bishops’ Conference, our Religious Education program encompasses a rich tapestry of learning experiences. More information about our Schemes of Learning can be found via the Curriculum page on our website.
During Key Stage 3, students delve into a comprehensive Scheme of Learning designed to meet the stipulations of the Curriculum Directory. This includes an exploration of foundational religious concepts and teachings, fostering a deep understanding of Catholic faith and practice.
Transitioning to Key Stage 4, students embark on the AQA Religious Studies A course, immersing themselves in the study of Christian and Islamic beliefs, rituals, and ethical considerations. From the academic year 2024-2025 onwards, we will adopt the AQA Religious Studies B (Catholicism & Islam) curriculum, offering students an in-depth understanding of both Catholic and Islamic traditions alongside ethical themes.
At Key Stage 5, students opting for the OCR A Level in Religious Studies engage with a rigorous syllabus encompassing Philosophy of Religion, Religious Ethics, and Developments in Christian Thought, equipping them with critical thinking skills and nuanced perspectives.
All students in Sixth Form study General RE, tailored to explore profound inquiries across various disciplines within Religious Studies. Delving into the realms of philosophy, theology, and ethics, this bespoke program encourages students to grapple with complex questions, fostering intellectual growth and spiritual reflection.
