Model United Nations
Skills for Life. Confidence for the World.
Model United Nations (MUN) is flourishing at St Joseph’s College, giving students the chance to step onto the global stage, hone their public speaking, and tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges—all before they’ve left school.
Last term, our MUN Club was busier than ever. Weekly meetings brought together students from Year 10 to Sixth Form to prepare for two prestigious conferences. Over the Spring half term, eight of our students proudly represented Germany and Brazil at the International MUN Conference hosted by Alleyn’s School. The event saw students engaging in dynamic debates on topics ranging from Global Defence to Human Rights, and they did themselves—and the College—proud. Despite being first-time delegates, their confidence and clarity stood out, earning praise from peers and staff alike.
Following this success, our team was invited to attend the first-ever MUN event at JAGS in Dulwich, marking another fantastic opportunity for our students to build their experience, sharpen their diplomacy skills, and speak with confidence on real-world issues.
Behind the scenes, Mr Austin (Head of Languages and Subject Lead for Mandarin) and Mr Theophilou have been instrumental in preparing students for these events. Together, they are building a dynamic, supportive MUN community. Looking ahead, the team is excited to continue working with partner schools and expanding training opportunities for our newest delegates—including hopes to collaborate more closely with Alleyn’s for future development and training.
What is MUN?
MUN is a simulation of the United Nations, where students take on the roles of country delegates to debate international issues. Whether you’re debating the ethics of AI, global food security, or climate action, MUN helps students develop:
MUN is open to all students, regardless of experience. Whether you're just starting out in Year 7 or planning to study politics at university, this is your chance to be part of something global, challenging, and deeply rewarding.
