  Chaplaincy   |   Section 48 Report

Catholic Life

Our founder, St John Baptist De La Salle, instructed his Brothers to "Often remind yourself that you are in the presence of God;” this is recited at the start of every lesson. The spiritual life of our College is directed by the belief that we see God in each and every member of the community. To this end we are an open and inclusive community who welcome pupils of all faiths.

Our school motto is "Fides Intrepida”  "Fearless Faith"; this reminds us that as a Christian College in the Lasallian tradition our work and play is rooted in faith in God.

Our chaplaincy team is led by our chaplain who is available to listen to and serve the needs of all within the school community.  Our chaplain offers a listening ear, a loving heart and a wise mind in helping all to navigate their ways through the challenges of life.  In addition, chaplaincy promotes positive relationships with each other, and with Christ, and offers a restful place of contemplation, prayer and reflection.

The College has a dedicated chapel which is used for school and community worship, and as a peaceful and safe space for all.

Each day contains an act of Collective Worship, here our pupils are given the opportunity to reflect and pray. The Chaplain also holds a Chapel Assembly for every year group. At the centre of these assemblies are The Lasallian Identity Framework:

  • Key Feature 1: Lasallian schools are committed to living their Lasallian heritage
  • Key Feature 2: Conscious awareness of the presence of God in the educational setting
  • Key Feature 3: Teaching motivated by vocation
  • Key Feature 4: Inspired by Gospel values
  • Key Feature 5: Commitment to the educational service of the poor
  • Key Feature 6: А human and spiritual education
  • Key Feature 7: Responsive to the learning needs of each student
  • Key Feature 8: Quality relationships
  • Key Feature 9: Promotes inclusive, collaborative educational communities

Masses are held on Holy Days of Obligation and days which are special for the College such as the feast of St. John Baptist De La Salle (Founder's Day) and St Joseph’s Day.

Students, parents and staff are invited to participate in evening celebrations in preparation for Christmas and Easter.

Religious Education is at the core of the curriculum. At Key Stage 3 the department has Scheme of Learning which is tailored to suit the needs of learners and to meet the requirements of the Curriculum Directory for Catholic Schools agreed by the Bishops’ Conference. At KS4 pupils follow the AQA Religious Studies A. This course gives a solid understanding of Christian and Islamic beliefs, teachings, practices, sources of authority and forms of expression as well as studying ethical issues.
