On Thursday 5th March, SJC will celebrate World Book Day.
We are doing this in a variety of ways:
Staff in literary costumes!
- Departments across the school will be wearing costumes based on novels/authors/literary texts.
- Each lesson will deliver a new bit of the same story. By the end of the day, every student will have read a new short story!
Big Read!
- Normal lessons are suspended period 2 on WBD. Instead students will DEAR (drop everything and read), reading something new about their subject and using discussion, questioning and debate to deepen their understanding.
Book Swap
- Students can exchange a pre-loved book with a token. On 5th March they can exchange their token for a new read in the canteen. See Miss O Connor for more details.
Page to Screen Viewings
- Every lunchtime from 2nd – 6th March with Mr Goodair in V0002.
Scavenger Hunt
- See Ms Morgan, your form tutor or head of year for a form. Then keep your eyes peeled on March 5th for the answers!
The College is hosting it’s very first ‘Working Together Tea’ on Tuesday 19th November 2019 from 3.15-4.15pm in the Learning Support Unit. It is a drop-in session for parents/carers with students at the College with additional needs who are currently receiving extra support both in and out of lessons.
We hope that it will allow parents/carers the time to better understand: how their child is being supported, which staff are supporting them and the resources and strategies we use.
Light refreshments will be served.
Parents will have the opportunity to meet with staff from:
• Literacy/Numeracy Club
• EAL Lessons
• Transition Lessons
• SEN support (including Homework Club)
Please email our school SENDCo to confirm your attendance on: bmusamadya@sjc.ac
