Religious Education
Religious Education is at the core of the curriculum. At Key Stage 3 the department has Scheme of Learning which is tailored to suit the needs of learners and to meet the requirements of the Curriculum Directory for Catholic Schools agreed by the Bishops’ Conference. Students follow a bespoke Religious Education course formed by the RE department covering stories from the Bible, New Testament morals and the ministry and teachings of Christ as well as the beliefs and practices of Judaism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism and Humanism.
At KS4 pupils follow the AQA Religious Studies A. This course gives a solid understanding of Christian and Islamic beliefs, teachings, practices, sources of authority and forms of expression as well as studying ethical issues.
At Key Stage 5, students follow the OCR A Level in Religious Studies covering: Philosophy of Religion, Religion and Ethics, and Developments in Christian Thought.
In the Sixth Form, students take the General RE course which follows a bespoke programme exploring questions within various disciplines of religious studies including questions of philosophy, theology, ethics, humanities and sociology.
