The Maths department is well resourced and comprises 7 teaching rooms each with an interactive whiteboard. The College operates on a thirty period week of 50 minute lessons. Students are set on entry in year 7 and are regularly tested and monitored to check their progress. Each year group has four lessons of maths per week. The top 60 students are expressed and follow the year above scheme of work. Schemes of work have been written to suit the needs of the students and meet the requirements of the National Curriculum. The top 60 students take 2 GCSE’s in Mathematics and Statistics and there are opportunities for other students to take Statistics GCSE in after school classes. Currently 30 boys are studying for this. The EDEXCEL linear syllabus is used for the top 60 students. The rest do EDEXCEL modular GCSE. The AQA syllabus is used for Statistics GCSE. At A level we offer Maths and Further Mathematics – 60 students started the A level maths courses this year. The department takes part in the UK maths challenges at all levels and there is a growing maths club. We also take part in Video conferences throughout the year in association with the University of Cambridge. The department is well supported and valued by the students, parents and SMT. |
