The Mandarin department oversees both Chinese language and Chinese cultural education for students at St. Joseph's College. The department holds Confucius Classroom status, being one of 535 schools in 108 countries around the world that Chinese Ministry of Education has recognised for the quality of its teaching. The Confucius Classroom status, and its link with the Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine based at LSBU, has ensured that the College has the resources to develop Chinese culture and language lessons in many other schools throughout the local community. Many cross-curricular activities are organised including Chinese New Year and other festival events, all of which help students at St Joseph's College develop a global outlook.
